About Us
Hi, I'm Summer Lankford
At the heart of our breeding program lies a deep-rooted love for dogs that began in my childhood, surrounded by Golden Retrievers and Poodles. My very first childhood dog was a Golden Retriever and then slowly we added a Lab and then eventually Poodles. My parents kickstarted their journey as breeders with Standard Poodles back in 2011, but it wasn't until we welcomed our first Goldendoodle in 2016 that we discovered the magic of this breed. A hypoallergenic Golden Retriever? It's a dream come true, and I can confidently say that Goldendoodles are the *perfect* companion!
While I was serving in the United States Air Force, life presented me with unimaginable challenges. The loss of my brother, Jake, in a tragic accident, followed by my brother Blake's untimely departure due to illness, plunged me into darkness. During these tough times, I found my beacon of hope in Sonny, my first Goldendoodle as an adult. Named in honor of my brother Jake, Sonny brought light back into my life, reminding me of the joy and love that still existed in the world. He became my SONSHINE, guiding me through the hardest moments.
Not long after, Laila Rose joined our family, and together, they filled our home with laughter and love. Then came Derek (the best dog dad ever), who became an integral part of our journey. With the addition of Lucey and Ellie, our family continues to grow and thrive.

We’re dedicated to breeding healthy, loving companions that will bring joy, laughter, and unconditional love into your home. We are a small in-home breeder of Goldendoodles! We are located in Southern California - 35 miles east of Bakersfield, CA and 20 miles west of Mojave, CA.
Our goal is to raise top-quality Goldendoodles that bring joy to families, just as they have ours. We strive to create lasting bonds and enriching lives one puppy at a time!
Each of our dogs is a cherished family member, living with us or in loving guardian homes. We prioritize their well-being, ensuring they grow in a nurturing environment filled with love and socialization.
Raising Healthy, Happy Puppies
At Summer Sun Doodles, we are passionate about raising top-quality Goldendoodle puppies in a nurturing home environment where they are truly part of our family. Their health and happiness are our top priorities, guiding every aspect of our breeding program.
As proud Gold Level GANA breeders, we complete all top-tier health testing for the breed, ensuring that our parent dogs undergo thorough evaluations, including:
- Embark Genetic Testing: Screening for over 200 genetic conditions.
- Additional Genetic Testing: Utilizing other companies for conditions not covered by Embark.
- OFA Testing: Evaluating cardiac, hips, elbows, and patellas (for mini/medium sizes).
- CAER Testing: Assessing for hereditary eye conditions.
Our dogs are fed a premium diet mixture of Open Farm dog food and JustFoodForDogs Fresh Food. We wean our puppies on a completely fresh food diet from JustFoodForDogs. Fresh food provides better nutrient absorption, promotes healthy digestion and supports overall well-being, setting the foundation for a long, vibrant life.
Each litter is thoughtfully planned, with puppies raised on an advanced service dog curriculum that incorporates Avidog, BAB, and Puppy Culture principles.
We empower our puppies with confidence and ensure they understand that the world is a safe place filled with good people. Our program includes scent introductions, handling exercises, sound desensitization, and various exposure activities. We also begin potty, crate, and leash training early on.
At around 7 weeks, we conduct temperament testing to give each puppy a voice. This allows families to choose a puppy that best fits their lifestyle based on personality and temperament, not just appearance.

Our Goldendoodle Sizes & Traits
Our puppies range from mini to standard sizes, weighing between 15-80 lbs. We take pride in producing a diverse array of coat types while prioritizing hypoallergenic qualities to suit every family’s needs.
Goldendoodles are known for their friendly, outgoing nature and their love for people, making them the ideal family pet. Their playful spirit and boundless energy ensure they can keep up with kids, providing endless fun and companionship. Happiness and playfulness are always at the forefront!
